P2P- cOMMUNITY sUPPORT gROUP
The Parents2Parents (P2P) Community Support Group, part of the Future Leaders Initiative SL’s educational project, Pens Up Canes Down, is dedicated to uniting parents from various communities and villages in the fight against all forms of violence against children (VAC). Understanding that VAC is deeply rooted in cultural practices, our initiative employs a multi-faceted approach, including essential health partnerships.
The P2P Community Support Group is committed to upholding and promoting children's dignity by educating and empowering parents with the resources and tools needed to effectively address VAC. Our efforts are designed to enhance parents' ability to create supportive and respectful environments for their children, recognizing that safeguarding their dignity is fundamental to their well-being and development.
In addition to educational support, we work to secure financial assistance, such as mini-business grants, to help parents improve their economic stability. This financial support enables parents to better provide for their families, thereby contributing to a more nurturing and dignified upbringing for their children.
Our mission is to drive community-wide engagement and collaboration in the fight against VAC, ensuring that parents are well-equipped to foster environments where children's dignity is upheld and protected.
Objectives
Educate and Empower Parents: Conduct workshops on children's rights and VAC prevention, with a focus on oral presentations and visual aids to accommodate parents who may have limited literacy skills.
Secure Health Partnerships: Establish collaborations with local health organizations to provide free health check-ups and counseling for children affected by VAC.
Provide Financial Assistance and Entrepreneurship Skills: Offer mini-business grants and basic entrepreneurship training to parents, helping them improve their economic stability and provide for their families.
Future Plans
Expansion of Oral and Visual Educational Programs: Increase the number of workshops and materials, incorporating more visual and interactive elements to enhance understanding among parents.
Creation of Community Support Networks: Develop support groups for parents, including regular meetings and peer support, with a focus on verbal communication and practical advice.
Long-Term Health and Counseling Services: Build lasting partnerships with health providers for ongoing medical and psychological support for families.
Advanced Entrepreneurship Programs: Develop more comprehensive entrepreneurship programs, including hands-on activities and mentorship, to help parents start and grow their businesses.
Ongoing Monitoring and Feedback: Implement a system to continuously assess the effectiveness of initiatives, ensuring they meet the needs of parents with varying literacy levels.

In an insightful interview conducted by Saffiatu Barrie, the women of the Parents2Parents (P2P) Community Support Group discuss their daily challenges and the difficulties they face in supporting their families, particularly their children. These women, many from remote villages, describe the obstacles they encounter in providing for their loved ones amid prevailing poverty.
Despite these struggles, the women are determined to break the cycle of poverty and are seeking supporters and partners to help realize their dreams. By providing mini business grants, we can support these women in creating meaningful change in their lives, their children's futures, and their communities. Your partnership can empower them with the resources they need to achieve their goals and make a significant impact.
